Adjala – Tosorontio is a township in south-central Ontario in Simcoe County. The townships of Adjala and Tosorontio were merged in 1993, that is how Adjala-Tosorontio was created. On January 1, 1994 the amalgamation became effective.
Adjala-Tosorontio contains numerous small villages and hamlets. Most communities were started by Irish Catholics who named their villages after their home towns in Ireland.
Tosorontio is a Huron word meaning ‘Beautiful Mountain’ and Adjala was the name of the Chiefs wife. For whom the neighbouring township was named – New Tecumseth.
